A few months ago Amy had told me very excitedly about a man named Allen Gross. Allen lived in the Roanoke area and well established in the field of spirit photography. I talked to Allen several times on the phone and was quickly convinced of two things:
1. He knew his subject very well.
2. He knew how to discuss it in a way that is very entertaining so it would hold your interest.
I asked Allen if he would be interested in talking to our group and he said that he would be glad to. We set up for his lecture to be held at 7pm on the 18th of April.
When the day came Allen arrived early and I had a chance to talk to him and his wife before the rest of the group arrived. It turned out that I had talked to a close friend of his named Wayne on the computer a few years ago concerning the topic of ghosts and group that his friend was helping to form. Sadly I learned that Wayne had passed away, but Allen had several good stories to tell about him. It was easy to see how close they had been.
Allen also showed Amy and I some of the most unusual orbs I had ever seen. Having had this hobby of ghost hunting for a few years I had seen many, many orb photos. Most of the time when I see one it usually makes me consider dust or moisture in the air, but these were very different. They contained things I hadn't seen in orbs before.
At this point the rest of the group started to arrive so we closed up the laptops and took a break before the lecture would begin. A few of us walked outside the library meeting room to enjoy a warm spring evening. Members present were Alissa, Peggy, Amy, Georgia, Michael, Alan, and Robin as well as several guests.
Well it was time for Allen's lecture on Spirit photography. I introduced him and sat back to listen and learn. I don't want to give away the contents of his lecture but I can tell you it held my interest the entire time. He told several very interesting ghost stories he and his family had been a part of in Gettysburg. He also told us how he got started in this field. He included hand outs, interaction with the audience, and humor as well. The one story in his lecture that seemed to hold people on the edge of their seats the most though was the one about his meeting a real physic. Allen didn't have much faith in physics until he met one that told about how his and his family's life would change drastically. It did, and it happened just the way she said it would. He also touched a little bit on orbs, but said that he would like to save that subject for a separate night. After his lecture had concluded, Allen asked for any questions from the group. He answered several and concluded his talk. We all headed to the back of the room for great snacks and sandwiches, still discussing the lecture. We have already asked Allen to return for a discussion on those controversial orbs.
If you have a paranormal group I suggest you contact Allen to give a lecture.
